Press coverage from SxSWSA
Here’s a roundup of the articles I wrote upon our return to South Africa:
South Africans rock Texas — a detailed report-back on the trip, published in the May edition of Brainstorm magazine.
Crowdsourcing startup investments — A report for ITWeb on South Africa’s own contribution to SxSW.
Tapping the crowd for start-up funding — published on TechCentral.

Austin rocks, and #sxswsa is loving it
South Africans out on the town for sight-seeing, food and music. Austin is a lively town, with great music and excellent food. And horses.

Keep Austin weird
“Keep Austin weird” is the city’s slogan. Whatever they’re doing, it is working:

Dinner and an emergency
The show is on the road. On Friday, 12 March 2010, most South Africans attending this year’s SxSW in Austin, Texas, had arrived, shaking off jetlag, arranging phone numbers and registration, and assessing their programmes.
The interactive segment of SxSW started slowly, brightened by flashes of excellent jousting between Marc Cuban and Avner Ronen about the [...]

Expect the unexpected
It is jet-lag time in Austin, Texas. Many of the SxSW South Africa crowd have arrived, and promptly went to town to party. Four of us, Ivo Vegter (that’s me, the shaky videographer), Justin Spratt, Jack Kruger and Andy Hadfield, hailed a taxi. It looked like a panel van dressed up as a yellow cab. [...]
Oh, to be cool in Texas
This is not a reference to my panama hat, which will be cooler than any other hat in Texas. It’s merely a hankering for temperate climes. Knysna, South Africa is unbearably hot right now. It’s after midnight, and still it’s 30-odd degrees (86F). Secretly, I’m testing blog posts from my HTC Hero. But mostly I’m [...]
So much cool stuff, so much to go wrong
I’ve got the blog set up and configured, and added a few nifty features, like a live schedule and a twitter feed. Lots has changed since the last time I did this, three years ago. If everything works, this post should be tweeted to the @sxswsa account automagically. It still links to the test blog, [...]
Bearing SxSW
I’m about to leave for Austin, Texas, to attend SxSW, one of the largest music, independent film and interactive technology festivals in the United States. My mission will be to… no, wait. What you’ll see on this blog, and on the sxswsa Twitter feed, is live coverage of the sessions I attend, interspersed with thoughts, [...]
